Let’s get one thing straight – your tan isn’t going to run away the second you pick up a body scrub. In fact, if you want that sun-kissed glow to last longer (and not peel off in patches the second you get home), exfoliation is your best friend– even while you’re still on holiday.

Most people panic at the idea of exfoliating on holiday. “Won’t it scrub my tan off?” they ask. Nope. That golden glow you’re working on? It’s happening on dead skin. So if you don’t slough it off, you’re basically bronzing a layer that’s going to flake off anyway. Not the dream.

So here’s the golden rule:Exfoliate your body 2–3 times a week while you’re away. Trust me – your tan will be deeper, smoother, and glow for longer. Plus, your skin will be silky soft and ready to drink up all that hydrating aftersun or body oil.

And if you fancy going back to basics (or just love a bit of tradition), here’s a little Greek family trick passed down from my loving, wise nan (yes, the same one who used to lather me in olive oil and make me smell like a walking Greek salad – if you’ve read my previous blog, you’ll know exactly what I mean!).

✨ Nan’s Beach Exfoliator:

  1. Walk into the sea 🌊

  2. Grab a handful of wet sand 🏖

  3. Rub it gently all over your skin in circular motions

  4. Rinse off with the salty water

  5. Thank nature for her spa services 🌿

Now Seal It All In – The Moisture Magic ✨

Right after exfoliating or stepping out of the shower, when your skin is still slightly damp, is the perfect time to lock in hydration. Forget the towel rub – just pat gently and go straight in with a natural oil or balm.

My go-to? Coconut oil, almond oil, or one of those rich, nourishing balms that smell like summer. Massage it into your damp skin – don’t worry if it feels a little oily at first. Within minutes, it’ll absorb like a dream, leaving your skin deeply hydrated, radiant, and smooth as silk.

Hydrated skin = healthy skin = longer lasting tan and less post-holiday peeling. It’s a win-win for your glow and your self-care.

So this summer, whether you’re soaking up the rays in Santorini or sunning it up in Cornwall, don’t skip the scrub, and don’t skip the oil. Your skin will thank you – and so will your tan.

And don’t forget – rule of thumb in this hot weather or when abroad: apply your SPF every two hours!

Why? Because heat, UV exposure, and yes – even glow (we don’t sweat, we glow 😘) – all break down sunscreen throughout the day. Even the best SPF can only protect you for so long before it wears off – especially if you're outside, swimming, or basking in the sunshine. Reapplication is key to keeping your skin safe, calm, and protected from flare-ups, burns, and long-term sun damage.

Now go glow, gorgeous ✨
