Time to spring clean your skincare

The days are getting longer, the mornings are getting lighter and the sun is starting to show its face at long last. Yep, spring has officially sprung – meaning it's time for you to spring clean your skincare routine.

If you think changing your skincare through the seasons is all a ploy to get you to spend more money, think again. Our skin's needs change through the year – and it's more than just adding a higher factor SPF in summer. If you've noticed that your skin is starting to break out during the change of season, it could be down to your winter skincare routine being too heavy now that the weather is getting warmer.

Opt for a lighter cleanser. If you're a fan of a rich, balm cleanser but you find that your skin starts to break out during the change of seasons, it’s time to change your first step of skincare to a lighter cleanser. While balm cleansers are brilliant, they can leave a residue on the skin which can cause some skin types to break out.

Equally, spring is a good time to up your exfoliation by slowly introducing an exfoliating acid to brighten and resurface your skin.

As the temperature starts rising there is more moisture in the air meaning we don’t need a heavy nourishing moisturiser. Swap for a hydrating serum and lighter moisturiser.

Then there's the obvious update: SPF. Yes, you know how much I bang on about wearing SPF everyday ending in Y! Spring is arguably the most important season to make sure you're wearing a high factor on a daily basis so that you're not caught short when a burst of pure sunshine comes out.
