New Year, New Me...

Around this time of year we are often bombarded with ‘New Year, New me ‘ social media posts, blogs and newsletters flying around…

Not me, I don’t want to find a new me. I am happy as I am.

It may of taken 55years but I am happy in my own skin, yes I have lines, wrinkles but my skin is healthy and tells my life story. I have had a good time getting these lines, drank far too much, partied a little too hard, eaten too much, not worn enough SPF in my early twenties & thirties (to be fair it wasn’t really around much when I was growing up). So considering all of the above I am truly happy in my skin and proud my skin tells my life story.

So if you want to feel happy in your skin without making big changes please read on…

My approach to skin care and growing older is always to be as natural as possible using the correct skincare and using SPF everyday ending in Y. Yes even in winter, the winter sun /weather still have the damaging rays that cause ageing and pigmenation.

Looking after and achieving healthy skin does not need to be complicated. Here are a few simple things you can do to improve you skin…

The first and most important tip is to understand that your skin is unique..

What a social media influencer or your friends use may not work for you.

Don’t get taken in by photo filters, gimmicks or the latest trends.

There are no quick fixes when it comes to skin as you are working with the science of the body. Talk to a skincare professional (that’s me) so you can make informed choices.

The second and equally as important as the first tip is wearing SPF every day…

For those of you that know me, you know this is what I bang on about the most. The importance of wearing SPF 40+ everyday (not SPF in your foundation), this is not enough to protect the skin from the damaging UVA rays that’s cause ageing.

Not sure where or what SPF would work for you, please drop us a DM and will will advise the best for your skintype.

The third tip is hydration, it can easily been done by you from just drinking water everyday. I know it seems harder to drink water in the winter but your skin is actually more dehydrated in the winter as there is less moisture in the air, and we have central heating on. So please up your water intake to at least two litres a day, if you don’t like water try herbal teas or fruit infused water. Another way is by adding a serum into your skincare routine. A serum works at the lower levels of the dermis to hydrate from inside out.

Not sure which serum to choose, please DM us and we will advise the best one suited to your skin-type.

The fourth tip is apply your skincare correctly. More people than you think actually apply skincare incorrect. A lot of us are guilty of dabbing the products onto our skin, or quickly rubbing them across our face.

Instead of dabbing, take a few minutes to apply and gently rub them over the whole face and neck. Think of it as a little mini facial massage to yourself. Not only will this technique help boost your your circulation, help with absorption of the product but it can also help your to relax.

If you’re stressed your skin will show this no matter what you do, as the stress hormone affects the skin in a negative way. So please take time with your evening and morning skincare routine, let it be your few minutes of self care. Your mind, body and skin will thank you for it.

The fifth tip is fuel your skin from inside-out.

It’s the old saying “You are what you eat”. With the skin being the biggest organ, your skin acts like a massive mirror reflecting the state of your health. By staying active and eating a balanced diet you will help your body and skin look its best. I am not saying don’t eat anything bad, but minimise the impact on the skin. If you have had a bad day, increase your water intake to help flush the toxins out of the body. If you’re drinking alcohol, drink a glass of water along side.

Tip six is to cleanse your skin twice a day. In the evening a double cleanse is recommend if make-up has been worn. In the morning a quick cleanse to refresh the skin and take the residue from the night time products off the skin.

Having clear, blemish free skin is something that we all want to achieve, yet often it can feel like the chosen ones have all the luck of great genetics while the rest of us struggle to find the products that suit our skin. Fear not help is at hand…If your having skin concerns or would like advice on choosing the best skin care for your skin, please book in for a skincare consultation.

This consultation is all about you, this is where TED comes in..

T - Tell me about your skin concern?

E - Explain how this makes you feel?

D - Describe how you would like you skin to be!

We will then ask you some medical history, home and work lifestyle questions, your past and present skincare (and no it’s not because we are being nosey). All this information gives us a complete understanding as to why you may be having skin concerns and enables us to get a skincare plan tailored to you using the correct skincare to help you achieve healthy glowing skin.

How may times have you purchased skincare without TED?

When it comes to choosing the correct products and Treatments for your skin, it can be overwhelming and costly experience without getting your desired results. This is another reason that a Devine Skin Consultation is so important. We have over 30 years of knowledge in skincare and are extensively trained in scientifically proven result driven skincare brand AlumuerMD. The advice and skincare programme you receive will be bespoke to you, it will be documented then given to you to follow at home. We will also provide ongoing support throughout your skincare journey, including free skincare reviews to make sure you’re always on track with the correct products.

Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions about your skin concerns. Let’s get glowing together in the New Year!
